Gordon and Gotch distribute a wide variety of magazines to Newsagencies and chain stores on a sale or return basis. Returning unsold magazines was a complex and time-consuming manual process. Forms were filled in manually by the retailer and faxed back to be scanned and keypunched overseas.
We undertook an assignment to model the requirements for a new approach, prepare a tender and go to market for a solution based on the provision of a web-enabled self-service returns facility. Strict rules needed to be created to disallow retailers lodging claims for returned stock more than once and tallying those claims with stock actually returned.
We utilised Holocentric Modeler to build the process models, performed detailed business analysis, and generate the tender documents. We were able to extend the use of the tool to other projects being run by members of Gordon & Gotch’s Future Leaders Program (FLP).
We subsequently project managed the vendor selection and implementation process, working closely with internal resources to manage the importing and exporting of appropriate content from Gordon & Gotch’s JD Edwards ERP system, leading to significant process improvement, reduction in errors and cost.
